Virtual Happy Hour: A Conversation on Ethics, Disclosure, and Surviving in Journalism
May 24, 2023
8:00 ET
Join us on May 24 at 8:00 ET for a virtual happy hour with our guest, the Poynter Institute’s Ren LaForme, during which we’ll discuss the intersection of ethics and journalism, as well as how to navigate the changing nature of newsrooms and journalism models.

About our guest: Ren LaForme is managing editor at the Poynter Institute, a journalism nonprofit based in St. Petersburg, Florida. He previously wrote about technology and led training for journalists about tools, social media/engagement, headline writing, SEO and more. Ren is a current James Beard Awards Emeritus Committee member and just wrapped a six-year stint on the James Beard Journalism Awards Committee.
Ren has a master’s degree in journalism and media studies from the University of South Florida St. Petersburg and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University at Buffalo. He is from a small town near Niagara Falls, New York, and lives in St. Petersburg with his wife, Keeley; baby boy, Augie; and dog, Finn. He enjoys drinking and brewing saison — once winning a homebrew competition to make a full batch of a hoppy mixed-culture beer at nearby Green Bench Brewing — and playing guitar in Crud Lite, his perennially underachieving punk band.
